I am Levitikos Dembure, a current PhD student in Plant Breeding and Genetics at Ebonyi State University, Department of Crop Production and Landscape Management, Nigeria under the ORPHAN Scholarship project. I am under the mentorship of four supervisors; Professor Hapiness Oselebe and Prof Benjamin Ubi (EBSU) and Dr. Hapson Mushoriwa and Dr. Olaniyi Oyatomi (International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, Nigeria.
PhD Research Title: Unlocking the Genetic Potential of Bambara Groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdic) for Climate Resilience and Nutritional Security.
Trials for the first season have been established at IITA (Ibadan – Oyo State), IITA (Ikenne, Ogun State) and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The Ibadan and Ikenne trials have matured and will be harvested at the end of January 2026. The Abakaliki trial is expected to mature around the last week of February 2026. One hundred and fifty-five accessions have also been sent for genotyping.
